DESCRIPTION
The Collaborative Problem Solving approach provides parents with concrete tools to better understand and parent their children (ages 3-18) in the face of ordinary challenges – e.g., getting to school, screen time, homework, bedtime – and more serious challenges. It’s based on the understanding that many kids lack the skill, not the will, to behave well – specifically skills related to
frustration tolerance, flexibility and problem solving. Unlike traditional models of discipline, the CPS approach avoids the use of power, control and motivators and instead helps parents to:
  • Strengthen their relationship with their child
  • Reduce their child's challenging behavior
  • Build their child's skills in self-regulation, communication and problem-solving
  • Solve problems collaboratively and proactively
During the workshop, parents have the opportunity to apply the course content to their unique situation, practice elements of the approach between sessions, and receive expert feedback, together with a supportive small group of parents facing similar challenges.
